Let’s consider the technology of 1910-1913.

Articles on Technology
Today’s workers have multitudes of tools available to build or repair homes, shops and offices. Professional contractors, craftsmen and construction workers have the latest power tools, many designed for very specific tasks. Instant accessibility is possible through rental businesses providing specialized tools and machinery for private citizens as well as large corporate contractors.
Construction tools of the 1910 era appear to have been primitive, at least that is what we observe in these photos from the dam construction. Tools that built the bunk houses, cement warehouses, concrete forms, material travelers and the great power house were powered by human muscle: pick axes, shovels, etc. The Industrial Revolution of the late 1800s brought about pneumatic-powered implements and steam-powered machinery. It was a curious time of horse-drawn industrial construction machinery.
This section includes research photos showing tools and equipment from that era. We invite the public’s input to share knowledge or relics relative to the 1910-1913 period. We are seeking photos, memorabilia and stories to enhance our study of early technology.
Plans are in motion for Mississippi River Power Days on June 30 and July 1 of 2012 where we will exhibit memorabilia and relics from 1910, and where we will collect and share knowledge.
